Arsene Wenger wants to give About Diaby a chance of making the first team.

Arsenal still want to give Abou Diaby a final
chance to resurrect his career and will consider a
pay-as-you-play deal or an arrangement that
allows him to continue training at the club even if
he does not prove his first team fitness by the
end of the season.
Diaby has been back playing with the Under-21
team over recent weeks following a horrific
sequence of injuries, although he was absent
from the squad last night that lost 3-2 to
Middlesbrough at the Riverside.
His latest comeback has impressed Arsenal
coaches - Under-21 manager Steve Gatting
described him as “excellent” in last week’s match
against Reading - and Arsene Wenger does want
to give him every opportunity of making a
comeback.
A new contract is clearly not on the table for a
player who has managed just 16 Premier League
games in the last four seasons but Wenger
retains the highest regard for Diaby’s potential.
He has also sounded more optimistic about the
situation than he was earlier in the year.
It is understood that Wenger would still be open
to allowing Wenger to continue his rehabilitation
at the club even without any formal contract and
then reassess the situation should he ever return
to full match fitness. Arsenal could then make
some sort of pay-as-you-play offer. A final
decision will be made at the end of the season.
